Care Quality Commission reports

Progress since last inspection

The Trust’s latest CQC inspection report cites many areas of Outstanding and Good practice. We were rated as Good in the CQC key questions of Effective, Caring and Responsive.

The report states that;

  • “People had good outcomes because they received effective care and treatment that met their needs”

  • “People were supported, treated with dignity and respect and were involved as partners in their care”

  • “People’s needs were met through the way services were organised and delivered”

It is disappointing that the Trust was given an overall rating of Requires Improvement. However, the report reflects the position at the end of March 2018 and we have since developed a comprehensive action plan and are well underway to complete the majority of our ‘Must Do’ actions. At the same time we are working on our ‘Should Do’ actions and are confident that they will all be complete with the required timescales.

Here are some of the things we have already put in place:

  • All relevant staff have had (or will very soon receive) paediatric intermediate life support training
  • We have reviewed our safeguarding processes within Sexual Health Wirral and are satisfied that they meet the necessary requirements
  • We have re-launched our ‘Wound Care Steering Group’ to drive forward improvements in the prevention of pressure ulcers across our community nursing service.

We are working closely with our partners at the CQC, who are meeting with us on a monthly basis to review progress. A further inspection will take place in July 2019.

Care Quality Commission Reports

Care Quality Commission publishes Wirral Community NHS Foundation Trust inspection report

The CQC has published its latest inspection report on the quality of care provided by Wirral Community NHS Foundation Trust.

The report cites many areas of Outstanding and Good practice and rated the Trust as Good in the CQC key questions of Effective, Caring and Responsive.

However, the Trust has been given an overall rating of Requires Improvement. The report reflects the position at the end of March 2018 and the Trust is confident that most of the issues raised (the majority of which were technical issues) have now been addressed. The few remaining issues have action plans in place to address them in the next few weeks.

Patients are at the heart of everything we do and we are proud that the kindness, respect and compassion of our teams was recognised by inspectors. The inspection team also found that staff took account of patients’ individual needs and involved them in decision making about their care. Patients told inspectors staff were friendly and approachable. This supports our Friends and Family Test results, which for the last eight consecutive months have shown that 97% or more of our patients would recommend the Trust as place to receive treatment or care.”

The CQC said: “When inspectors raised concerns they were immediately addressed and staff were seen to be kind, caring and passionate about providing high quality care.”

The Trust has firm foundations to build on and welcomes the CQC returning to inspect the Trust again within the next 12 months.

A press release from the trust is available in our news section and copies of the reports can be accessed below.
