Public have their say about future of NHS Trust

Wirral Community NHS Foundation Trust held its first member community event as a Foundation Trust on Wednesday 13 July. It was an opportunity to meet the publically elected Council Governors who represent the interests and views of trust members, and Wirral residents. Governors are a central part of being a foundation trust and oversee the work of the Board in running the organisation.

Members of the public gathered at St Catherine's Health Centre to meet their governor representatives from across the four Wirral constituencies – Birkenhead, Wallasey, Wirral South and Neston, and Wirral West. Alison Hughes, Trust Secretary said: "At the point of achieving our Foundation Trust authorisation we have 7,201 members, which includes both public and staff. Our younger membership continues to grow and we are delighted to have developed a positive and rewarding working relationship with the 'Young Chamber' in Wirral and have had significant recruitment success at recent careers events including St John Plessington where we recruited over 100 young members in one day."

Irene Cooke, Lead Governor said: "I believe that we need to actively listen to the views of service users, in order to identify their values and priorities in order to sensitively tailor services accordingly to meet these needs, and facilitate patient led, rather than service led care. As lead governor, I will actively contribute to the Trust Board agenda in order to promote the best available care and to make a real difference to the lives of the Wirral community."
