Diabetic screening
We undertake diabetic screening which is fully compliant with NICE guidance CG10 and can offer a range of reporting mechanisms to suit your practice. We also have the capacity to arrange annual recalls to ensure you meet your QOF if you so wish.
Specialist biomechanical services
We undertake biomechanical assessments and gait analysis in order to prescribe functionally corrective orthoses and treatments. We are able to produce custom made insoles 'in-house' using a digital fabrication system and can produce a pair of custom made insoles in less than one hour with many patients leaving clinic with the fitted insoles at their initial assessment.
Corrective nail surgery
Corrective nail surgery procedures under local anaesthesia can provide a permanent solution for many acute and chronic nail problems. We can arrange total or partial nail avulsions with or without phenolisation of the nail matrix as appropriate. We can also arrange re-dressing appointments to the point of resolution if required.
Nail Care
We undertake a range of treatments from simple nail care for those who are unable to manage due to age or infirmity, to the treatment of infected, psoriatic or involuted nails. We also undertake the on-going management of ingrowing toenails for patients who are unsuitable for corrective nail surgery procedures.
Corn and callus reduction
The instant pain relief from corn and callus reduction is appreciated by many of our patients. However this intervention also plays an important role in reducing the number of tissue breakdown events leading to ulceration in patients with poor tissue viability. Many elderly, diabetic and rheumatoid patients benefit from callus reduction and the off-loading of high pressure areas.
Wound care
Our podiatrists are able to undertake all aspects of wound care. They are highly skilled in sharp debridement technique and have comprehensive knowledge of the most effective current dressing regimes. In addition we have a team of highly motivated diabetes specialist podiatrists ready to advise and assist our community podiatrists with all wound care issues.
Foot health education
Whilst most foot health education is delivered within the clinic on an individual basis, Wirral Community NHS Trust podiatrists also actively partake in the multidisciplinary X-Pert education program for new-diagnosed patients with diabetes.
Self-management strategies
We provide health and wellbeing education, encourage independence and remaining in work, and our patients are actively encouraged to participate in their own footcare as much as possible. Podiatrists also provide advice and assistance to carers.
Patients benefit from accurate diagnosis and appropriate onward referral improving their journey during the process of assessment and treatment, and reducing the need for unnecessary investigations. We offer advice, support and interventions regarding diabetes, rheumatology, biomechanics and wound management. We also undertake multi-disciplinary interventions involving, tissue Viability, physiotherapy and Falls Prevention.
